ABOUT “MATTY’S LIST”

Thank you for stopping by to check out “Matty’s List”. I created this site to provide a platform on which I could share my intimate thoughts, remarkable life experiences and personal opinions. Offering my broad range of professional skills for hire was a secondary notion, but has proved to be a positive addition. Writing has become a primary concentration of mine. Most of my professional time is spent reflecting on the past and speculating what the future may hold. One can expect to find a wide array of topics included in my blog. Check back often for new posts and please feel free to share links to this site if you’d like.

Silverton, CO – Fall 2018

A little bit about me…I grew up in Rock Island, IL. My childhood was wonderful and I have an amazing family. At the age of fifteen, I began working in a local funeral home. I learned quickly that the death of a loved one is undoubtedly the most difficult experience we’ll encounter in life. When I observed the professional, compassionate and patient guidance it took to assist the bereaved, I knew I wanted a career in death care. For the last twenty years or so, that’s exactly what I’ve done. In 2004, I graduated from Carl Sandburg College with a degree in Mortuary Science and was a fully licensed funeral director/embalmer by 2005, in my home state of IL. I then served as GM of a highly reputable, family- owned firm in Chicago for seven years. In 2012, I purchased my first funeral home, in Pagosa Springs, CO. Since then, I’ve gained several certifications and achieved many professional goals, both in and out of the highly rewarding death care industry. With an entrepreneurial spirit and much ambition, I’ve owned several businesses here in Colorado, including a motel, logistics business, private investigations firm and of course a cemetery/funeral homes.

Currently, I call Durango, CO my home, along with my beloved partner, Kanyon. Being surrounded by the beautiful San Juan Rocky Mountain Range has been a blessing for several years. However, in March of 2020, this city was hit hard by the pandemic, just not the virus. Something though, has blanketed the region with an unnecessary exaggeration of fear, eliminated many small businesses and persuaded many citizens to relocate.

Valley Lawn Cemetery- Montrose, CO June 2017

I’m a fan of counter-culture, Chicago Cubs baseball, history, taking risks and traveling. Being knowledgeable in many topics, I try to bridge a gap between “useless” and “useful” information. It’s long been a passion of mine, and I’m a proud, self-proclaimed “realist”. Music has a huge presence in my life. I play the drums, harmonicas, while learning the guitar and piano at the moment.

The death care profession, paranormal and all things related to “the other side” will provide the foundation for “Matty’s List”. Expect to also read about current events, politics, family, relationships, 80s & 90s pop culture, all Chicago sports and anything I find relevant. Finally, expect occasional mature-themed humor. It’ll never be classless, but it will contain adult language and situations. If you find any content offensive, I apologize in advance, but you should probably loosen up a bit.

I love my Taye Go-Kit.
