Matthew R. Boyle

Former Funeral Home & Cemetery Owner/Funeral Director/Embalmer/Post-Mortem Reconstructive Surgical Specialist/Certified Medicolegal Death Investigator/Licensed Private Investigator/Author/Professional Consultant

Matthew began his funeral service career at the young age of fifteen. He proceeded to follow his dream of helping families through their most difficult times, by attending mortuary school at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois. In 2004, Matthew graduated at the top of his class, with a degree in Mortuary Science. He served as General Manager of Muzyka & Son Funeral Home in Chicago, Illinois for six years, before purchasing Pagosa Springs Funeral Home & Cremation Service and relocating to Pagosa Springs, CO in 2012.  In 2011, he was honored by the National Funeral Directors Association, as one of the nation’s top 50 funeral directors under the age of 40.

Post-graduate education has long been an important part of Matthew’s career, with a heavy concentration in embalming and restorative art. He’s confident that viewing the deceased can be a very positive experience, at a time when it’s difficult to make sense of anything.  It isn’t for everyone, but those who choose to view their loved one and allow the public to, seldom regret it.  He continues to receive education on cutting-edge practices in the funeral industry and is proudly a pioneer in “green burial”.  Matthew was amongst the first funeral directors to implement environmentally conscious methods of final care.

Is an open casket a thing of the past in our society?  “Not at our firm” says an employee at Rose Memorial Parlour.  “Traditional options here are more affordable now, than they were thirty years ago. “Matthew is an extraordinarily skilled embalmer” his staff explains. ” Really, his ability to give the deceased a natural, comfortable look is among the best I’ve ever seen.  In most cases, the decedent looks so peaceful and natural, that it startles surviving loved ones-in a good way, of course. ” they add.

Matthew belongs to the Colorado Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, Cook County Funeral Directors Association, Illinois Funeral Directors Association, American Society of Embalmers.  He formerly served the town of Pagosa Springs, CO, as an elected member on the Town & Tourism Committee. Matthew remains active in many civic and spiritual community events. From 2012-2015, Matthew’s firm served the role of Deputy Coroner and he is a Certified Medicolegal Death Investigator. Expanding on his investigator role, Matthew received his Private Investigator license in the State of Colorado.

Matthew’s teenage son Dylan is an incredible golfer, baseball and basketball player. They cherish every moment spent together.  Fishing, traveling, playing the drums, cooking and most of all, “being with family”, is how he spends his limited free-time.
